Pat Byrnes has been a cartoonist for The New Yorker since 1998 and is NCS Silver Reuben Award winner for both a Best Gag Cartoons (2017) and Best Advertising Illustration (2001). He co-founded The Drawing Board, with fellow NCS-er Jonathan Plotkin, as a B2B consultancy for management training, team building, and DEI with methods rooted in the art and science of cartoon thinking. His syndicated editorial cartoons appear in the Washington Post, The Week, and Politico. And since 2025, he chronicles the continuing adventures of “Stan” in a regular feature for American Bystander. Previous careers include voice actor, ad copywriter, and aerospace engineer. But it was always about cartooning.
